## Discuss your preparation plan

Tell us about your ISAT reasoning and familiarisation goals. We’ll confirm tutor availability, fees and suitable demo options.

Know what you’re preparing for

## Your test, in context.

### Who it’s for

International applicants to university courses that specifically require ISAT.

### What to expect

Critical and quantitative reasoning using information from a range of contexts. It is not a subject-specific school science examination.

### Before you plan

Confirm that your particular course requires ISAT, along with the current booking, identity and technical requirements. ISAT and UCAT ANZ are different tests.

Understanding before speed

## The skills to focus on.

01

### Critical reasoning

Identify a claim, evaluate evidence and draw a justified conclusion.

02

### Quantitative reasoning

Apply numerical information to a new situation and check the logic of a solution.

## Practise a skill. Understand your next step.

Choose a topic that fits your current level. These short samples support the skills discussed above; they are not a complete ISAT reasoning and familiarisation mock test.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

## Put your data, probability and interpretation learning into practice.

Worked example · Data, probability and interpretation

### Find the mean and median of 2, 3, 4, 6, 10.

1. The total is 25 and there are 5 values, so mean = 5.
2. The ordered middle value is 4, so median = 4.
3. The high value of 10 pulls the mean above the median.

Common mistakes to check

- Treating correlation as causation
- Ignoring whether a sample represents the population

A focused way forward

## Build a study routine around the test.

Read widely and explain the reasoning in unfamiliar passages or data. Use ACER’s official familiarisation material to understand question styles. Topic worksheets can practise an underlying skill, but memorising a subject syllabus does not reproduce ISAT preparation.

Discuss your next step

1. 01

### Understand the starting point

Use the official requirements and your attempted work to identify the next skill.
2. 02

### Practise with a purpose

Review a method, attempt a new task and explain the reasoning in your own words.
3. 03

### Review and adjust

Check repeated mistakes and revisit the skill before adding more timed practice.
