# New Brunswick Curriculum Guide: Kindergarten to Grade 12

New Brunswick uses provincial curriculum, anglophone and francophone systems, common assessments, and a graduation model that speaks in credit hours rather than only course counts.

How school is organised

## What families should know before matching a tutor.

New Brunswick publishes curriculum and assessment information by education system. Parents should confirm whether the student is in the anglophone or francophone pathway before choosing material.

The province's public graduation guidance for English Prime students references credit hours, Grade 9 requirements, a career-life plan, compulsory/options and electives.

That credit-hour language matters for tutoring because a senior course can be both an academic skill target and part of a graduation plan. The same assignment may affect current marks, course completion and future course eligibility.

### English Language Arts

New Brunswick English Language Arts support should identify whether the student is working in the anglophone system and what reading, writing, speaking or representing outcome is being assessed.

### Mathematics

New Brunswick Mathematics becomes more course-specific in high school. Families should share the course title and unit so support matches the graduation pathway and not just the grade label.

### Science

New Brunswick Science support should distinguish content knowledge, investigation skills and written scientific communication. A tutor needs the current unit and rubric to choose the right examples.

### Digital Literacy and Technologies

New Brunswick digital learning can appear through technology courses, digital literacy work and school program options. Project briefs are often more useful than a broad subject label.

Assessments

## New Brunswick assessment context

New Brunswick assessment pages identify provincial assessment activity across several grades, including elementary and middle grades, the English Language Proficiency Assessment, French second language oral proficiency, and a Grade 10 provincial assessment.

Families should not borrow assessment names from another province. New Brunswick's assessment schedule and descriptions should be checked directly for the school year.

For tutoring, provincial assessments are most useful when combined with classroom work. A Grade 10 assessment concern may require reading strategy, written response practice, mathematics review or test pacing.

Graduation

## Senior years and New Brunswick credit hours

New Brunswick graduation planning uses credit hours in the public guidance reviewed for this build. That makes the current course load and the student's plan important context for any tutoring conversation.

A senior student may need help protecting a required credit-hour area, strengthening an elective course or preparing for a provincial assessment. Those are different goals and should not be merged into one generic plan.

New Brunswick public guidance for students graduating in 2026 and later identifies 100 credit hours. It also describes Grade 9 requirements, a career-life plan, compulsory/options and electives.

Because requirements can differ by program and language system, the school should confirm the final graduation audit. Tutoring should support the courses that the school identifies as required or strategic.

### Tutor matching in progress.

We are building the Canadian curriculum tutor roster for this section. Tell us the province, grade and subject and we will match a tutor directly rather than asking you to pick from a list that is not ready yet.

Parent guidance

## What to share before the first session.

New Brunswick parents should bring the system, grade, course title and whether the concern is classroom marks, a provincial assessment or graduation planning.

If the student is preparing for English Language Proficiency Assessment work, ask for recent writing and reading samples so support is evidence-based.

For senior course planning, separate credit-hour completion from post-secondary prerequisites. A course can satisfy one need without satisfying the other.
