## A closer look at Accounting.

01

### What to focus on in Accounting

Use the accounting equation to check how a transaction changes the business. Keep the owner’s personal finances separate and distinguish cash received from revenue earned.

02

### Match practice to your actual course

Levels 1, 2 and 3: confirm the exact subject and standard with your school. Your school’s subject choices, topic sequence and assessment tasks determine the detailed plan. The practice set below samples accounting: the equation and business transactions; it is not a complete syllabus or an official exam paper.

03

### Prepare a useful question for your tutor

Bring one attempted question and show your working or first draft. Explain what you tried and where the reasoning stopped. Together, identify whether the difficulty is treating every cash receipt as revenue or a missing prerequisite, then try a fresh problem independently.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

## Put your accounting learning into practice.

Worked example · Accounting: the equation and business transactions

### A business owns assets of 12,000 and owes liabilities of 4,500. Calculate owner’s equity.

1. Use Assets = Liabilities + Equity.
2. Rearrange: Equity = Assets − Liabilities.
3. Equity = 12,000 − 4,500 = 7,500, in the same currency units.

Common mistakes to check

- Treating every cash receipt as revenue
- Recording only one side of a transaction
