## A closer look at Mathematics.

01

### What to focus on in Mathematics

Connect each algebraic rule to its graph and domain. Roots, intercepts and turning points answer different questions. State restrictions before simplifying an expression.

02

### Match practice to your actual course

Levels 1, 2 and 3: confirm the exact subject and standard with your school. Your school’s subject choices, topic sequence and assessment tasks determine the detailed plan. The practice set below samples functions, quadratics and transformations; it is not a complete syllabus or an official exam paper.

03

### Prepare a useful question for your tutor

Bring one attempted question and show your working or first draft. Explain what you tried and where the reasoning stopped. Together, identify whether the difficulty is treating f(x) as multiplication or a missing prerequisite, then try a fresh problem independently.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

## Put your mathematics learning into practice.

Worked example · Functions, quadratics and transformations

### Find the roots of x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0.

1. Find two numbers whose product is 6 and sum is -5: -2 and -3.
2. Factor: (x - 2)(x - 3) = 0.
3. Set each factor to zero: x = 2 or x = 3.

Common mistakes to check

- Treating f(x) as multiplication
- Cancelling terms without recording excluded values
