    Know what you’re preparing for

    Your test, in context.

    Who it’s for

Applicants to business and management programmes that accept or require the GMAT.

    What to expect

The current GMAT has Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. Older resources containing an essay or Integrated Reasoning section describe a different format.

    Before you plan

Confirm the score policy and deadline for each programme. A school may accept several tests, and old GMAT score scales should not be treated as the current scale.

    Understanding before speed

    The skills to focus on.

    01

    Quantitative Reasoning

Translate a problem into mathematical relationships and justify a solution using arithmetic and algebra.

    02

    Verbal Reasoning

Evaluate arguments and read closely enough to distinguish evidence from an assumption.

    03

    Data Insights

Interpret tables, graphics and multiple sources, including decisions about whether the information is sufficient.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

Put your linear equations and graphs learning into practice.

Worked example · Linear equations and graphs

    Solve 3x + 7 = 22.

    1. Subtract 7 from both sides: 3x = 15.
    2. Divide both sides by 3: x = 5.
    3. Check: 3(5) + 7 = 22.
    Common mistakes to check
    • Changing only one side of an equation
    • Confusing the y-intercept with the gradient

    A focused way forward

Build a study routine around the test.

Start with the official sample questions and a current-format diagnostic. Review whether each missed problem came from knowledge, interpretation or pacing. Rebuild the method, try a related problem and then use mixed practice to learn when to change approach.
