    ELA 20-1: topics to discuss

Close reading, supported interpretation, clear writing, oral communication and critical engagement with texts or media. Work with the texts and assessment criteria your school has selected. Develop a claim, choose precise evidence and explain its effect; drafts used for learning remain the student’s own work. Confirm the current topic sequence and full coverage using your school’s outline and the official source below.

    03

    Building confidence in english

A useful analytical paragraph makes a claim, selects precise evidence and explains how that evidence supports the interpretation. Naming a device alone is not analysis. Lessons can alternate a modelled example, a question attempted together and an independent attempt so the tutor can see where understanding changes.

    04

Use school feedback to guide revision

Bring a recent paragraph, reading response or teacher comment. Explain where you got stuck. The next practice task should check that particular skill before introducing more complexity. Tutoring supports learning; assessed submissions remain the student’s own work.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

Put your english learning into practice.

Worked example · Reading evidence and paragraph writing

Read: Maya checked the empty road again and tightened her grip on the letter. What might Maya be feeling?

    1. A reasonable inference is anxiety or anticipation.
    2. The repeated checking and tightened grip support the inference.
    3. Explain the connection while acknowledging that more context could change it.
    Common mistakes to check
    • Retelling the plot instead of analysing
    • Using a quotation without explaining its effect
