    Know what you’re preparing for

    Your test, in context.

    Who it’s for

Applicants whose university course specifies the Test of Mathematics for University Admission.

    What to expect

Mathematical application and mathematical reasoning, including logical argument. Check the current specification and permitted tools.

    Before you plan

Requirements and test sittings depend on the university course and entry cycle. Confirm the exact test, modules and deadline on the institution’s website; a tutoring enquiry is not an exam registration.

    Understanding before speed

    The skills to focus on.

    01

    Mathematical application

Connect algebra, functions and other specification topics to unfamiliar problems.

    02

    Logical reasoning

Analyse implications, conditions and mathematical arguments carefully.

    Free learning resources

Practise a skill. Understand your next step.

Choose a topic that fits your current level. These short samples support the skills discussed above; they are not a complete TMUA mock test.

Understand it. Try it. Review it.

Put your functions, quadratics and transformations learning into practice.

Worked example · Functions, quadratics and transformations

    Find the roots of x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0.

    1. Find two numbers whose product is 6 and sum is -5: -2 and -3.
    2. Factor: (x - 2)(x - 3) = 0.
    3. Set each factor to zero: x = 2 or x = 3.
    Common mistakes to check
