01Rhetorical analysis: connect choices to purpose
Identify the situation, intended audience and purpose before annotating techniques. Select a few significant choices and explain their function in the argument. A paragraph needs commentary connecting evidence to your claim, rather than a list of devices.
02Synthesis and argument writing
Compare the positions and limitations of sources, then use relevant evidence to develop your own qualified claim. Practise integrating and attributing sources, addressing a counterargument and maintaining a coherent line of reasoning. For argument practice, distinguish a relevant example from an unsupported generalisation.
03Reading, revision and exam preparation
Work on nonfiction passages and revise your own paragraphs for clarity, organisation and precision. Use current College Board materials for exam requirements. The short original worksheet below develops rhetorical commentary; it is not a full AP exam or an official scoring exercise.
