Know what comes next
Students take MCAS in English language arts and math in grades 3 to 8 and grade 10, science and technology/engineering in grades 5 and 8, Biology or Introductory Physics in high school, and civics in grade 8. MCAS is given on computer, with paper as an accommodation. Results use four levels: Exceeding, Meeting, Partially Meeting and Not Meeting Expectations.
Since the November 2024 ballot question, MCAS is no longer part of the state's graduation standard, the Competency Determination. From the Class of 2027, students instead need district-certified coursework: two years of ELA, Algebra I and Geometry (or Integrated Math I and II), one year of science and one year of U.S. history. MCAS tests are still given.

The results still show how your child is doing against the state standards, and the courses needed for graduation, such as Algebra I, Geometry and science, cover the same material.
Biology or Introductory Physics, depending on the course your child takes.
